Born in Memphis, Tennessee, Sue Gouse has moved frequently throughout the United States, has also lived in Mexico, and finally settled in Savannah, Georgia. Much of her inspiration for her oil paintings comes from her travels, with special emphasis on the beach and the mountains. Sue believes life is a gift from God, and her palette reflects her love of beauty in vivid color. She enjoyed a long career in clinical nursing after graduating from Duke University. She is married to Dr. John Gouse, has raised five children, and is the proud grandmother of five, another source of painting subjects! After much creative work of all kinds, especially in home decorating (several of her homes have been featured in magazines), gardening, and sewing, Sue became an oil painter, studying under Velda Lovell in Cashiers, North Carolina. She has subsequently taken instruction from Marcos Blahove of Tybee Island, Georgia, Paul Lucchasi of New York City, Bob Rohm of Flower Mound, Texas, Joann Williams-Walker of Panama City, Florida, Julie Hanson of Sarasota, Florida, and Julyan Davis of Ashville, NC. Laurel Magazine of Highlands, North Carolina featured Sue's work on the cover of their September, 2006 issue. An honorable mention was awarded to Sue at the Savannah Garden Exposition 2006, she was awarded Second Prize for “Golden Field” in Savannah Art Association’s juried show “Enlightened” November, 2009. She has been juried into several fine art shows, including “Open Art” at the Telfair Art Fair and the annual juried art show at The Bascom, Highlands, NC. She has exhibited at the Trillium Links and Lake Club, The Bascom, The Savannah Harbor Club, Trends and Traditions, The JEA, the Landings Plantation Club, and The Landings Company. In Savannah, her work is sold at her Studio/Gallery 9 in City Market, Soho South Gallery Cafe, Westin Savannah Harbor Resort, Eclectibles, The Cottage Shop, Byrd Cookie Company, Polka Dots, and Merry Times. She also exhibits at Atlantic Beacon Gallery, Tybee Island, and 37 th at Abercorn Antiques & Design in Savannah. Sue's giclees decorate the walls of the United Community Bank, Southside, and West Rehab, in Savannah. Her painting, “Red Chairs” was selected for the cover of a book by Kyle Roberts and Beverly Plimpton, "Two, Please!" Art association memberships include Oil Painters of America, Landings Art Association, Tybee Art Association, Savannah Art Association, The Bascom, and Art League of Highlands.
